Location: London (Baker Street)

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week in-office

Salary: Up to £130,000 (negotiable) + equity & benefits

The Role: Senior Back-End Engineer

As a Senior Back-End Engineer at Vega, you will play a key role in building the core infrastructure that powers the platform. You will architect, develop, and optimise scalable microservices using Java 21 and Spring Boot, ensuring seamless integration with critical systems across the private markets ecosystem.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Architecture

• Lead the design and development of backend services for the SaaS B2B platform

• Drive an open, modular architecture that integrates seamlessly with partners across the private equity landscape

Microservices Development

• Build and maintain scalable, resilient microservices using Java 21 and Spring Boot

• Champion performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability

API Engineering

• Develop and optimise RESTful APIs that power front-end applications built with React & TypeScript

• Work extensively with OpenAPI for interface generation and documentation

Platform Integrations

• Ensure smooth integration with third-party systems used by private equity firms, distributors, private banks, and fund administrators

Performance & Optimisation

• Identify bottlenecks, improve data flow, and ensure high-performance service operation at scale

Code Quality & DevOps

• Advocate clean code practices, automated testing, and CI/CD excellence

• Contribute to robust DevOps processes for smooth deployments and high availability

Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide technical guidance to fellow engineers

• Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and engineering best practice

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in back-end development

• Deep expertise in Java (preferably Java 21) and Spring Boot

• Proven experience designing and developing microservices architectures

• Strong proficiency with SQL, including schema migrations using Flyway

• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, Cognito, and KMS

• Working knowledge of containerisation tools (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)

• Strong background in building REST APIs and working with OpenAPI

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks

• Excellent problem-solving ability and strong communication skills
